Travel

Mariehamn, Åland Islands (Ahvenanmaa), a city in autonomous Finnish archipelago at the entrance to the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea. There are daily connections to Åland (Ahvenanmaa) from Finland and Sweden and you can choose to travel by ferry or by plane. 
1. The regional airport of Åland is MHQ – Mariehamn Airport, located in the north part of the city. Connections from Helsinki and Stockholm to Mariehamn are operated by Finnair or the regional airline populAir.
2. As Åland is located in the heart of Scandinavia, halfway between Stockholm and Helsinki, the ferry journey past the archipelago islands is an impressive experience in itself: 1) from Finland, Turku or Helsinki (Viking Line); 2) from Sweden, Stockholm (Viking Line); 3) from Estonia, Tallinn (Tallink Silja).

Visa

Åland/Ahvenanmaa is part of the Schengen Area. Citizens of countries that have joined the Schengen Agreement do not need a passport but must have an identity card. Nationals of countries outside the EU/EWS should check any visa requirements before travelling to Finland or Åland. Please check visa/passport requirements. Venue

The venue for the Space Climate 10 is the Alandica Culture and Congress Center(1st Day and Poster session), and Åland Maritime Museum (all oral sessions except 1st Day), located in Mariehamn – the capital of Åland/Ahvenanmaa, autonomous region of Finland.

1. Strandnäs Hotell – the ferry terminal is 3.5 km away.

How to get there

From the Airport to Mariehamn City Centre:

The venue is located at a distance of 5 kilometres from the national Mariehamn Airport (MHQ).

Public transport:
– Bus connections to the center of Mariehamn are available from the bus stop Posten. This bus stop is located outside the
airport area (approx. 700m – google maps)
– Use Line V (Kalmarnäs/Solberget – Centrum) to get to the venue. This is only a few meters away from the Centrum station

Taxi:
– Taxis are available outside the airport at the scheduled arrival times for Mariehamn Airport.
– There is also a free hotline in the terminal for ordering a taxi.

Car Rental:
Further information: Airport Mariehamn | Parking and Transportation. A few car rental companies are located at the airport. Some
of them open only with a pre-reservation. Therefore, check the opening hours and other information on the car hire companies‘
websites.

From the Ferry Port to Mariehamn City Centre:

The ferry port of Mariehamn is located very close to the city center.

By foot:
– The distance is less than 1 km, so it is an easy 10–15 minute walk if you do not have heavy luggage.

By bus:
– There is a bus stop directly outside the main ferry terminal.
– Tickets are purchased on board (cash in euros).
– Check schedules on the Ålandstrafiken website or at the bus stop.

By taxi:
– Taxis are available at the ferry terminal upon arrival.
